EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The environment is one of the reasons why people survive and it’s very important for us to take care of the environment and not the other way around. We need to protect it from people or other factors that wants to damage it. A healthy environment means a healthy people.

Exploration for and production of petroleum have caused major detrimental impacts to soils, surface and ground waters, and the local ecosystems in some parts or places in the world. These impacts arise primarily from the improper disposal of large volumes of toxic materials. Contrary to what most people believe, environment degradation has been an issue for years. Some people ignore this because we seldom read or see it in the news. Some people are taking actions to solve this problem, environmental groups and the governments of the countries are two of the groups that are preventing any added damages to the environment.

Chevron has been involved in several controversies but the most criticized is its issue in environmental damage. Environmental damage in Ecuador, Pollution in Richmond, California, Oil spills in Angola, Oil spill off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, and its Violation to the Clean Air Act in the USA are some of Chevron’s environmental issues.

Crude Oil is simply unprocessed oil found deep beneath the earth’s surface. It can range in color from clear to black and can be found as a liquid or solid. Overall properties of crude oils are dependent upon their chemical composition and structure. Crude oil is pumped and stored in barrels for future refinement. The refinement process may involve filtering, addition of additives, and specialized separation techniques to create specific crude oils and crude oil products. Generally all crude oils are made up of hydrocarbon compounds (Turner, n.d.).
